Flying Is A Discipline... Safety Is An Attitude! Aurora Municipal Airport (ARR) 43W442 US30 Suite#184 Sugar Grove, IL 60554 Founded 1995 |
|
Based at Aurora Municipal Airport just outside Class B airspace near Chicago, Illinois, Aurora Skyhaven Flying Club provides its members economical flying and facilities promoting the hobby and education of aviation. It also features 24 hour computer scheduling and no equity-investment membership.
The flying club was founded in March 1995 and currently has 9 members. Insurance currently limits the active member count to 5, but with only 5 active members the availability of the aricraft is superb! The plane is flown only about 200-250 hours per year. Our aircraft is a Piper Cherokee 1972 PA-28-180 which was just painted with the New Piper Meridian paint scheme. The aircraft is located at the
Aurora Municipal Airport (click for map) and has recently moved into a newly built hangar that is being leased by the flying club. The temperature controlled hangar when complete inside will provide our members with a clubhouse-type atmosphere, featuring a pilot lounge, kitchen, bathroom and office area. The goal of the club is to provide each member an opportunity to meet other pilots, enjoy the hobby of aviation, and fly an immaculate aircraft to any destination in the continental U.S. without the worry of ownership and/or renter related problems found elsewhere.
"...Thank You for opening the club at ARR... with this airplane it's almost too good to be true..." ASFC Member Dave Hess

Other plans for the future include, flying as a group with other members, who have their own planes to air museums in the nearby area, flying to a lake in Michigan for a day of fishing and a landing contest. Club members also fly the plane to Oshkosh each year. Many club members are involved in AirLifeLine Midwest and participate in that organization.
"...I like the smaller size of the club, where we all know each other. I can get the plane when I want it and I also know who is flying the plane..." ASFC Member Gary Brinkman

Aircraft Hourly Rates (Wet)
Rates are based on the number of hours pre-purchased and range from $70-96 per hour hobbs. Because of the small size of the club, a portion of the rental cost goes back to the club to cover the fixed expenses not covered by the dues. There are no monthly dues or costs. Each member is incented to pre-buy a minimum of 25 hours. The aircraft is rented wet with complete insurance at one million dollars aircraft/liability. All present members are instrument rated and fly a minimum of 25 hours which reduces the insurance rate. Each member is covered under this policy. Each member participates in an insurance pool that covers the deductible.
Club Membership
Membership is open to the public subject to qualification requirements and membership levels established by the Executive Committee. At present, because of insurance rates, the club is not accepting student or private only rated pilots. Insurance limits active members to 5. Associate members are non-voting members and can not fly the plane, but can attend all functions and receive club emails. They do not even have to be a licensed pilot but one who has a love of flying. They are also given the first chance to become an active member should one of the active members step out. Annual dues for active members are currently $470, prorated to the number of months to May 1 of the next year. To apply for membership, a completed application form and a non-refundable non-prorated administrative fee of $30. Upon acceptance the $470 dues on a monthly prorated basis is due. Annual dues will not increase without the approval of two-thirds of members voting. To request an application by mail, write to the address above with your name, return email address, postal address and phone number.
Aurora Skyhaven Flying Club Inc. accepts applications from students through ATP pilots. No application will be denied for reason of race, color, gender, religion or disability.
All members shall be committed to the philosophy of the club... "Flying is a Discipline, Safety is an Attitude", and all members must actively be enrolled in the FAA's Wings Program for pilot safety. This requirement is to encourage all members to fly on a regular basis to keep current and proficient. The club currently has FAA certified flight instructors on staff for any training needed and Wings Program participation.
Club Benefits

The Aurora Skyhaven Flying Club Inc. membership benefits are endless. Each member has their own key to the club hangar facilities and Sky Haven clubhouse area to use whenever they desire. The club aircraft is available 24 hours per day via the ASFC computerized scheduling (Internet).
The goal of the ASFC is to be a member driven and member owned organization with various decisions regarding the club being voted upon with at least two-thirds majority.
The club helps maintain the aircraft to the highest standards. The aircraft is always in "Wax-Clean" condition and any pilot squawks are handled as soon as possible. The aircraft is maintained to the highest of standards-- yours. So that you, the pilot, can be assured of a safe and sound flight each and every time you fly.
During optimal flying season, usually May through October, the club has numerous flying trips planned so that members can share operating expenses while being able to fly various fly-ins, events, breakfasts and yes, even famous "Oshkosh"!
The club is committed to providing our members and their families an excellent opportunity to enjoy the wonderful and exciting world of aviation without being a millionaire... the
Aurora Skyhaven Flying Club Way!"...The atmosphere of pride and camaraderie sets ASFC apart from typical membership flying clubs..."
